NO to Investment Apps - Not what you think!
Mar 11, 2022I've had many discussions with students who have asked about the best investment apps to use. The main perspective I share is don't let those apps give you a false impression of it being your go-to educational resource and making you automatically a better/more effective investor.
College students should not be talking about investment apps as if those apps are the way to invest or that it is an easy way today make money and/or to participate in the stock market. They simply have installed something that may not be what they think it is and is now attached to them 24/7!
These apps are designed to trigger one to trade, to speculate, to be reactive and to think short-term! Students with these trading apps may say they are making "investments" but really they are gambling with their hard earned money. With constant notifications, the app is directly connected to their bank accounts, they are now hooked!
Several months ago, I did a video about it, and it's still relevant today! Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aas0Up6vC0c
Trading apps are not meant to let people make money. They are designed for the app's company to make money! Why do they give out free stocks, etc., to lure you in? Of course so you can be hooked on their system and be subjected to their method of trying to monetize/make money off of you! So be careful when you use any apps out there. All these apps are very well designed to trigger more of your emotions than the critical thinking side of your brain! Let's get real here! You are a smarter person than that to be fooled by such marketing tactics!
If you want to be an investor, it requires a lot of technical knowledge, emotional discipline and maturity! Sorry to tell you this, but there are no shortcuts or easy methods to entering the investment market!
Although apps may be simple to use, and there’s no cost versus working with a professional, with a low required minimum investment, you must be careful when you sign up for such platforms. With the use of apps, you will need great personal financial management. Make sure you already have control over your emotions and finances and be clear about your investment risks and budget.
So please, think critically and carefully when you are putting your hard-earned money towards these types of apps and being on their platform.
